Non-live Dead... |
I thought about this the other day, and I did not have an answer... I could not remember! Sooo... I ask everyone as well.
What/when/where was the last NON-live Grateful Dead song you listened to.
I know it was XM Radio, but I can't remember the song...

Re: Non-live Dead... |
Hmmm--odd question. You do mean "album" right? Non live album, right?
I actually listen to more album than live, for most of my years with the boys. That's why I am forever going on about Workingman's and American, or the first Album, etc., etc.
Everyday I listen to a non live dead song; most days I also listen to a live one, but the albums would outweigh the live if push came to shove.

Foolish Heart from Built to Last, if you can believe that. I've had the same CD since like 1992.

I thought about playing Stella Blue from Blues for Allah last night after listening to it from 3-24-90. But it didn't happen...
I may have listened to American Beauty a couple months ago. Solid album, memories...

Re: Non-live Dead... |
Great question! Couple of months ago, I put the Dead studio albums on shuffle with some Lyle Lovett, Willie Nelson, Los Lobos, Rob't Plant/Allison Krauss, Keb Mo, Bruce Hornsby, Steeley Dan, Paul Simon, and Neil Young; but I've not listened to a whole album in awhile. Oh, wait, picked up the unreleased Brent Solo album a couple weeks ago and listened to that. I play Garcia/Grishman - Not For Kids Only quite a bit, though.

The last complete song was Viola Lee Blues. I still listen to that first album quite often. More recently Built to Last came up on shuffle.I skipped it after a minute or so.

Box of Rain this morning.
5 min walk from car to office. The start of American Beauty is a great way to start the work day.

Re: Non-live Dead... |
That is pretty cool, I never listened to that before. While listening and reading comments I realized I've never heard a live Money Money. I did a search and found some live renditions.
Here is an AUD that is pretty listenable:

Just had Jerry's "All Good Things" box set on the CD player day before yesterday and played his first solo album in its entirety bonus tracks & all. Last week I played the Mars Hotel reissue.

I was on an "Eyes Of the World" kick, so I played the breezy, if far-too-short version from "Wake Of the Flood"...of course on the reissue there's a juicy live version tacked on the end, so I played that, too...!

My brother esau on vinyl, b side of the 7 inch touch of grey, the edited version which I had just played, I was testing my new record player.
Hard to believe now, 20 odd years later they put a shortened single out (the record company)

Unbroken Chain - Mars Hotel. Probably my favorite "studio" moment.
